Environment department

The program of the newly established Department of Environment is structured in 8 semesters of study (4-year study Department) where students to complete their studies must complete a total of 240 ECTS (30 ECTS per semester). This total number of ECTS will be completed successfully by examining 40 compulsory courses, 6 elective courses (24 ECTS), a dissertation (15 ECTS) and a foreign language (2 ECTS).

The curriculum was structured in such a way that during the first 2 semesters students acquire basic knowledge in structural sciences to understand the processes in the environment (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics), as well as courses that will introduce students to physics. and Structured Environment, in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Geology. In the next 6 semesters students will be taught courses that could be divided into three main areas

Biological processes, Ecology and Ecosystem Management (indicatively mentioned ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY, ECOLOGICAL ENGINEERING, ECOTOXICOLOGY, ENVIRONMENTAL BIOTECHNOLOGY, TECHNOLOGY,

Economic and Sociological Approaches to the Environmental Sciences (indicatively mentioned ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIOLOGY, ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, FAIR)

Technologies and Engineering Skills in Environmental Sciences (PRINCIPLES OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN, MATERIALS AND TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT, HYDROLOGY, DOMIMENOS SPACE AND ENVIRONMENT TECHNOLOGIES WASTE WATER TREATMENT, SOLID WASTE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND RISK MANAGEMENT etc.)

In addition to the above three axes in the curriculum were included courses that provide basic knowledge (a) in ENERGY issues (MIND AND NEW FORMS OF ENERGY (b) in cutting edge technologies such as GEOINFORMATICS AND METHODS.

At the same time, students are given the opportunity to choose a specialization through the elective courses. Each student during the last two years of his studies has the opportunity to choose 6 specialization elective courses. The specialization elective courses are divided into 4 specialization groups such as (a) ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION (b) WASTE MANAGEMENT (c) ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING) Students must select 5 courses from the list of courses included in the Specialization they have chosen plus 1 additional course from one of the other Specializations to complete the minimum number of ECTS of elective courses (24). During the 8th semester students are required to complete a dissertation in a subject of their choice and for this reason in this semester they have a lower workload (2 electives and 2 compulsory). The list of optional courses includes the courses of INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP as in other Departments of the University of Thessaly.

These courses compulsory and elective (indicatively, General Chemistry, General Biology, Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, ANALYTICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY, GEOINFORMATICS, TECHNOLOGIES WASTE) will include laboratory exercises will give students the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of laboratory measurements that are an integral part in the education of graduates of the Departments of Environmental Sciences.
